Today’s high octane lifestyle doesn’t allow much me time. Everything seems disposable and fashionable and needs to be instantly gratifying. So we at Revival beds feel that it’s nice to have something in your home with a long history a solid construction with its feet firmly planted in the past. A four poster bed will provide you with this and will give you a place to spend that all important me time…your own private hideaway
The five distinct styles include the magnificent Ambassador four poster with bobbin turned posts that are reminiscent of a Tudor style oak four poster bed. The carved Orleans 4 poster has the look of French Louis bedroom furniture. The County Kerry four poster bed with its delicate barley twist columns that support the wooden canopy. The Countess fourposter with a full panelled headboard and taper twist columns; and finally the Chatsworth pine four poster bed. Each of these beds is available in a variety of sizes the most popular being the super king size four poster bed.
Revival four posters are traditional wooden beds that are ideal for draping and hanging luxurious textiles and fabrics in much the same way as antique four poster beds were. Four poster beds can be traced back through history to where many furniture makers like Thomas Chippendale and James Adam gave there own take on the 4 poster bed. Many of these beds can still be seen in stately homes. Probably the most famous four poster bed can be found in the Victoria and Albert museum in London. The Great Bed of Ware built
around 1600 measures 8’9” tall and 10’8” square and was once said o have bedded six citizens of London and there wives. The idea of a four poster bed dates back to when people all lived together in one room. In order for them to enjoy a little privacy drapes were hung around the bed from the roof beams. The forerunner of the four poster bed was known as the bed chamber and would be lavishly draped with beautiful imported textiles and tapestries. Often the textiles were more valuables than the actual bed.
Dear All, We are writing to you to express our
complete and total satisfaction with our Orleans 6’0 Four Poster Bed.
All too often these days, one feels that goods are just about adequate for
the price paid, but in this instance, we could have paid twice as much and
still have been 100% satisfied. The solidness, the looks, the way everything
fits together as it should, all add to the quality of your goods and the
workmanship therein. Our thanks go to all who had a hand in this matter
and it goes without saying, we will of course recommend Retford Pine and
especially, the Revival Bed Collection, to all the admirers of our wonderful
bed.
Yours very gratefully
Robert & Clare Young
LIBBY’S TIP. A simple way to hang drapes and textiles from the canopy of your four poster bed is to use sticky Velcro pads on the inside of the wooden canopy.
