Libby's Tips: Traditionally antique beds and four poster beds like this would have been made from walnut or oak. However the problem with antique beds is that they are very rarely found in large sizes such as the super king size beds that are readily available today. In the eighteenth and nineteenth century people were smaller and so the beds that were made were smaller so most beds tended to be four foot beds or double beds rather than the super king size beds that are now popular.
