Craftsmanship, good design and attention to detail through and through - that's the Loire bed. This is a design that looks perfect in virtually any décor, traditional or contemporary, minimalist or decorated in vibrant colours.
Typical of the sleigh bed design (often known as Lit Bateau, Bateau Lit or Boat Beds), its slightly inclined headboard makes it very comfortable for sitting up and reading in bed! A tremendous amount of thought has gone into the rustic styling and craftsmanship, from the carved headboard to the 'beehive' feet. And for the ultimate 'heirloom' look that's so French, we've even introduced 'faux' woodworm!
Also central to creating the impression that this is a solid piece of bedroom furniture that's been in the family for generations, the Loire sleigh bed is available in a choice of hand-waxed finishes.
As a nation passionate about interior décor, we've embraced the French country look with a passion! You'll find sleigh beds like our Loire, Provence and Riviera beds in top boutique hotels up and down the land. This is a look that says elegance and 'quality' through and through - a style that looks like a much-loved family heirloom or a clever find in a Provencal antique shop or auction.
Colours used in the French country style come from the full spectrum of the colour wheel although the emphasis is always on natural colours. Think natural dyes or natural spices (turmeric, chilli, etc) teamed with the azure colour of the Mediterranean and you've got the Provencal look to a tee.
Libby's Tips: French country interiors contrast pale plaster walls and natural pots and ceramics with dark beams and furniture as well as woven wicker-style baskets. Soft furnishings are in bright natural hues like fiery reds, yellow ochre, deep blues and grass greens.
The great thing with the French style is that you can take it as far as you want. Choose to stick with understated natural stone colours and woods without any colour at all - or go the whole hog with every Provencal colour under the sun.
Lighting is central to the restful French boudoir look. We recommend Moroccan style lamps with rust or ochre shades. Rustic chandeliers also create the look of faded elegance.
